Have you ever flipped through old family photo albums and come across pictures of sharply dressed gentlemen and ladies in picturesque landscapes, cozy living rooms, or at historic landmarks? These photos evoke a sense of nostalgia, capturing a bygone era brimming with charm and anticipation. At Atelier Temppeli, we strive to recreate this spirit through our timeless portraits.
Atelier Temppeli was inspired by an appreciation of vintage fashion, the architecture of Helsinki, and film photography. Our goal is to offer our customers a unique photography set against the beautiful backdrop of Helsinki’s cityscape, complete with period-appropriate outfits and equipment. All our portrait services utilize vintage film cameras, and the photographs are developed in our in-house darkroom.
To enhance this experience, we also provide vintage clothing rental, allowing customers to dress up for their photoshoots without the hassle of sourcing the outfits themselves.
Darkroom
At the heart of the atelier lies our custom-built darkroom at Temppeliaukio. Nestled in a recently renovated basement space equipped with efficient ventilation and heating systems, the room maintains an ideal temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a relative humidity of 50% and 60%. Spanning 15 square meters, this darkroom comfortably accommodates multiple users, while the separation of dry and wet areas facilitates a streamlined workflow. We are continually on the lookout for new equipment, and currently, the darkroom features four enlargers: Durst M370 color, Meopta Opemus 6×6, and two Meopta Opemus IIa.
Studio
The studio space, located next to the darkroom, provides enough room for individual and couple photoshoots. At the studio we offer seamless backdrops in different colors, a professional lighting setup and a series of seats and props for the customers to use. There is a small makeup table for last minute touch-ups, but at the moment we do not have running water nor access to toilet facilities in the studio space. The studio space is not wheelchair accessible.
